Restore Funding for Drug Projects-Cllr. O Toole
Published: 14 December, 2009
Speaking in Dublin today Sinn Féin Councillor Larry O Toole condemned the news from the Department of Education that funding for almost 30 drug related projects across the Greater Dublin area will receive a funding cut of 28% in 2010 and will receive no funding at all in 2011.
Cllr. O Toole said "At a Drugs Task Force meeting this morning, when it was anounced that the Dept. Of Education funded drug related projects across this city have been cut by28% in 2010 and that funding will be cut completely in 2011.
"These projects, which provide such services as aftercare, training and support, are an essential part of the battle against drugs in communities across this city. To cut, and then eliminate completely, funding for these projects must be one of the most short sighted moves made yet by this government and is a slap in the face for communities across this city.
"I am calling on the government to immediately reverse this decision. These projects provide not only practical support, but also hope, to people all across Dublin. Communities in Dublin deserve better."
