Cllr. Larry O'Toole speaking after attending the tree planting ceremony in Fairview Park to celebrate 50 years of the Dubliners folk group said, "As a fan of the Dubliners I was pleased to be present at the tree planting ceremony. It was a fitting tribute to the group that have entertained thousands of people in Ireland and worldwide down through the years. My adult life has corresponded with life of the Dubliners. They have been my greatest musical influence."

Present members of the group Barney McKenna, John Sheehan and Patsy Watchorn were present, as were relatives of Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew.

Dublin City Council Parks superintendent Eoin Ward chaired the ceremony. Barney McKenna reminisced of his fifty years with the Dubliners and John Sheahan read a poem. Eanna Ni Lamnha, broadcaster and environmentalist addressed the crowd as did Andrew Montague Dublin's Lord Mayor.
